WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressional Progressive Staff Association (CPSA) leadership released the following statement in response to the radical Republican appropriations plan for Legislative Branch funding.

"Republicans aren’t content slashing government programs, they want to make it harder for Congress to do its job, too.

“By capping congressional office funding — the Members’ Representational Allowance — at 2023 levels and by wholly defunding the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Republican Conference wants to deprive our constituents of vital local services and representation in the halls of Congress.

“Not only that, but Republicans continue to oppose key collective bargaining rights congressional staff won last year in House Resolution 1096, the resolution which paved the way for the Congressional Workers Union.

“This bill is a destructive and partisan attempt to prevent progress toward a more diverse, representative, and working-class congressional workforce."

CPSA was formed in 2021 to uplift the voices and experiences of progressive staff. We believe by educating people on the issues impacting staff and advocating for structural reform, we can inspire meaningful change for congressional employees across the country. At nearly 1,500 members, CPSA is the largest staff association on Capitol Hill and is growing every day.
