WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the Congressional Progressive Staff Association (CPSA) released the following statement in celebration of its one-year anniversary as a staff association.

“One year goes by fast when you are having fun, fighting the good fight, and building community in a space that so often divides rather than unites. A unique staff association built intentionally off of shared values, CPSA has become an exciting space to learn, grow, and relax for our over 1,070 members.

“In just one year, CPSA established one of the largest memberships of any congressional staff association, conducted a massive survey on workplace conditions that shed light on the struggles and stories of congressional staffers, hosted over a dozen informational and social events, and helped normalize progressive conversations in the workplace. We have also been proud to advocate for the overdue structural changes that have been recently implemented in the House, including a staff pay floor in the House of Representatives, the increase to the House Members’ Representational Allowance (MRA) specifically aimed to raise staff salaries, and the recognition of House congressional worker’s right to organize without fear of retaliation or reprisal.

“While we’ve accomplished so much in our first year, there is more work to do. CPSA will continue to be here as a resource, progressive community, and vocal advocate for a better workplace for all of our members – especially as offices in the House begin to exercise their right to organize. We will keep working to build on our victories for House staff and to make sure that our colleagues and members in the Senate have the same rights.

“CPSA has a lot in store for the next 365 days – we encourage all congressional staffers and interns to come along for the ride. Sign up, dues free, at cpsaDC.org.”
